ADVISOR UPDATES

MIDTERM GRADES:

Midterm grades for your advisees are viewable on self service.  In your self-service account, go to “faculty and advisor”, “student information”, “select ID”, and then click on “Registration History.”  These same grades are viewable on Internet Native (if you have access) on “SFARHST.”  This is useful intervention information for advisors.

ADVISOR LISTING IN BANNER

Departments have access to assign advisors to students in Internet Native on “SGAADVR”.  It is important to make sure all advisees have an advisor listed as registration is upon us.

ADVISING CONCERNS:

Advisors need to spend additional time with first-year advisees. These students are less familiar with curriculum choices and academic policy. First-year students

  • need to know about the grade recomputation policy.
  • must pass the FYE course (Making Connections). This course is a University requirement. If a student does not pass the course, they can retake this course in the spring as a general section (UC 1013) for grade recomputation unless your departments’ FYE course is discipline specific such as in ENGR, MUS, ART.  In this case, they must repeat the discipline section if they are to continue in that major. NOTE: Transfer students (students with 13 or more hours earned beyond high school graduation) are not required to take an FYE course.
  • Students must make a “C” or better in English I or II and all developmental courses.
  • enrolled this Fall who end up on academic probation will be required to take a one credit course in the Spring (UC 1011). These students will be automatically enrolled in the course.  Advisors who suspect this may be the case should inform the student during fall registration.
  • MATH 0003 and MATH 0013 are no longer available for web registration.  Students needing these courses must remove all holds, see advisor then call Advising Center for registration in these courses.

ADMISSIONS & CREDITS

Students who wish to petition any curricular or academic policy concern can petition through the Admissions and Credits Committee.  The student must first seek signature on the petition from their academic advisor. Advisors should be familiar with this process as more and more students seek this opportunity.  After the petition is signed, the advisor forwards the petition to the college committee for review. The college committee will then send this information to the university committee. This committee meets on the first Tuesday of every month. Students are strongly encouraged to attend. Petitions should be turned into the Registrar by 5:00 PM the Friday before a scheduled meeting. More information at http://admissions.astate.edu/committee3.shtml
