Transitioning through
life…
I’ve been a part of this campus since birth. My parents moved here before I was
born, and my father was hired as an instructor of psychology. My mother, Paula
Lynn, worked with the International Student Center, then later the Office of
Admissions, and now she’s here with me at the Advising Center. I have met many
wonderful people, both working at and attending ASU and have many fond
memories. I’ve also been blessed with the opportunity to watch this campus
evolve over the years, and it only seemed natural for me to attend ASU when I
came of age.
I started out as a double music major, which was an overwhelming decision for me
as an entering freshman. Needless to say, that didn’t last long, and I have,
like so many of you, changed my mind and major many times. After years of
indecision, I had finally discovered a degree in which I am now very
passionate. But before I could really get started, I got married and had a
baby, and there was a little part of me that just wasn’t ready to be so grown up
and dedicated to the idea of being a full-time wife, mother and student. So,
university life was placed on the back burner.
So much has changed for me. Once again, life happened, and I have now grown up
quite a bit. My first marriage didn’t quite work out, but I have recently
married a wonderful man whose love and support is unparallel. I have two
beautiful, amazing children. We have a new addition to the family – Sam, the
hamster. I’m still working at ASU and now attending classes full-time. I won’t
have much longer until I am able to graduate! Every day is a new experience and
a blessing, and through it all I’ve learned one valuable lesson: you can never
plan your future by the past!
