Tips for handling parent inquiries:
  • Listen to the parent concern.  Sometimes simply listening to the concern will calm a alarmed or disgruntled parent.
  • Offer the parent hypothetical solutions to the concern without disclosing information about the student. "You stated your son was on academic suspension.  If he is on academic suspension his options are..."
  • Encourage parent to have the same conversation with their son or daughter.

In the case of a student with a privacy screen in BANNER, the above listed information may NOT, under any circumstances, be released without the student’s written consent.  Please note that class schedules are not open directory information cannot be released to anyone that does not have a “need to know”.  Grades must never be posted in any way that anyone other than the student may have access to the information.  Grades may only be posted if the student is assigned a random number that only the student and instructor are privy to.  Using the last 4 digits of the student’s social security number is not acceptable. Student I.D. numbers and GPA must never be shared with anyone without the consent of the student.  And under no circumstances should these items be displayed in any manner.
