Paula Lynn

It’s Great to Be Here!
As I begin my new career as an instructor and advisor in Advisement Services, a familiar lyric from a Beatles song comes to mind. “I have to admit it’s getting better, it’s getting better all the time!”   I’ve had some wonderful opportunities at ASU over the past 23 years and all of them have involved advising and working with students.  Seven of those 23 years were spent working with Saudi Arabian students who were here pursuing academic programs as part of the Saudi Arabian Customs Project.   Nearly 16 years were spent in the Office of Admissions, where I had the pleasure of meeting and talking with prospective students about the college process and why ASU was the best choice for them.  This newest phase in my career is simply a natural progression for me and one that has the key element that, to me, is most important--helping students succeed.

My Education
I’m originally a Hoosier, and, like many of you, I didn’t venture too far from home when I enrolled as an undergraduate.  I began my undergraduate career at Indiana State University and eventually transferred to Purdue University where I obtained my B.A. in Sociology with a psychology minor.  In 1976, I moved with my husband and son Brian  (Erin would be born later)  to Jonesboro, Arkansas and went on to complete two graduate degrees at Arkansas State University-- a M.A. in Political Science and a Specialist in Community College Teaching.  My first teaching experience during graduate school was intimidating, but I had a blast and knew it was something I’d like to do someday!

Some Other Facts
Just four years ago, I married for the second time.  Jerry is a fantastic man who had four sons from his previous marriage.  So, between the two of us, we have six children, all grown, and six adorable grandchildren. I love being a grandmother!  When I have some down time, I like to read and enjoy the flowers in my yard.  I also like to watch the birds.

Traveling to new places is also something I truly enjoy and do whenever I have the opportunity.
