ACADEMIC STANDING
Academic standing is based on students' cumulative and semester GPA and is used to determine students eligibility for continued coursework at the University. Students are either in good or poor academic standing based on their institutional GPA. If either the cumulative or semester GPA is below a 2.0, students will be placed on academic probation or suspension. NOTE: Only ASU coursework is considered in ASU academic standing. Transferwork is not included in insitutional GPA calculations.
ACADEMIC PROBATION
Students are placed on academic probation when their semester GPA or cumulative GPA falls below a 2.00. Students on academic probation CAN NOT enroll in more than 12 semester hours and are encouraged to visit with their academic advisor or the WIlson Advising Center. Under certain circumstances, students can request an exemption to the 12 hour restiction: See form form:
FORM - EXEMPTION FROM 12 HOUR COURSE RESTRTICTION
NOTE: First-time, first-year students on academic probation at the end of their first semester will be automatically enrolled in a one-credit course (College Choices: UC 1011) for additional academic mentoring and group support. Students are responsible for tuition and course requirements.
ACADEMIC SUSPENSION
Students with both semester and cumulative (institutional) GPA below the required 2.00 who were already on academic probation will be placed on academic suspension at the end of the semester. Academic suspension is a mandatory absence of enrollment from ASU. Students on academic suspension may be required to sit out one or two semesters depending on the number of suspensions they have earned. Students on a first-time suspension may seek immediate enrollment by making application to the Restart@state Program. NOTE: Any student on academic suspension who has not participated in the Restart@state Program is required to participate in this program upon their next enrollment period unless the student has sat out of college for two or more years. The Restart@state program permits conditional enrollment with the University during a student’s suspended period (See conditions below).
If a student has already participated in this program and is placed on academic suspension a second or subsequent time, student must adhere to the suspension policy as stated in the ASU Undergraduate Handbook.
CONDITIONS OF THE RESTART PROGRAM
In order to be eligible for the Restart program, students must first complete the Restart Application Packet then attend a mandatory Restart Workshop. The completed application must include a cover page, semester worksheet, statement of intent and have all necessary signatures. Once students return the completed Restart Application Packet to the Wilson Advising Center, the student may be signed up for a workshop date. The workshop will last one to two hours. At that time, students will receive an overview of the Restart@state program and be registered for all classes including placement in the mandatory the Restart Seminar.
Restart Application (Please print Restart Application in landscape)
Students making application to the Restart@state program will need to clear all holds on their account (other than academic suspension or developmental holds) prior to attending the workshop. These include but are not limited to: advising holds, student accounts holds, transcript holds, bad email address holds, bad address holds, student loan holds. Students should set aside a minimum of 1.5 hours for the Restart workshop. During the workshop, students must sign a written agreement with the Wilson Advising Center that explains the terms of their conditional enrollment. Most notable is enrollment in a one-credit course called the Restart Seminar. Eligible students must then enroll in at least 6 but no more than 12 semester hours of ASU coursework. Students must also be able to meet the financial obligations associated with the course including purchase of required text. NOTE: In addition to tuition for the Restart seminar, students will be assessed a fee for the Restart Program.
